The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
