The Renowned Musician Calls On Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of talented individuals. The song showcases a mix of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
