The Top 10 Sci-Fi and Fantastical Television of This Year
How would you do if you had unlimited control? That's the core question asked by the best sci-fi and fantastical narratives. Imagine if you were granted extraordinary powers? Or discovered a revolutionary substance? Or if each and every other human became wholly committed to your personal happiness? Would you use such power for good, or would you give in to your own darker instincts?
The series listed herein all confront this theme in distinct manners (aside from one key exclusion). Outlined here is our list of the ten top seasons of science fiction & fantastical TV from 2025.
10. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Even after over 60 years of history, Spider-Man remains reinterpreted by new creative voices. This series presents a novel perspective at the character's formative days, cleverly blending classic source material elements with influences from other adaptations to craft something which is simultaneously new and deeply compelling.
Rather than being alone or Tony Stark as a guide, this version of the hero forges a complex partnership with the future Green Goblin, who here is merely the head of Oscorp. Through their dynamic, Peter grows into his own man, learning the iconic mantra of power and responsibility.
9. Hazbin Hotel Season 2
Creator Vivienne Medrano's boldly transgressive adult musical show, which originated as a fan-funded short, truly hit its stride in its second installment. Building on the climactic events of season 1, the story expands significantly, following the ambitious media overlord Vox as he seizes control of the situation, sparking a chain of ever-more explosive confrontations that inevitably culminate in show-stopping musical numbers.
Although it might not have a one breakout song on the level of season one's "iconic tune," this is due to everything in season 2 being more complex. The fight sequences, personal development, and especially the music are all more sophisticated. The season advances the main storyline forward while delivering no shortage of weird, wild, and ultimately entertaining dark fantasy.
8. Daredevil: Born Again
Following the acclaimed Netflix series, this series had immense shoes to fill. After well-documented production challenges, the resulting show demonstrates it was worth the effort. The story centers on Matt Murdock after his dual life as Daredevil is exposed, leaving him a target to enemies from his history and new threats in a refreshed version of his well-known world.
The first episode is explosive, capturing the intense tone fans cherished from the original series. Although the middle episodes venture into some new narrative ground, the season finishes on a strong note, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating a follow-up installment.
7. Common Side Effects
An unexpected this year's gem, this series could be described as a crime saga with the sensibility of a suburban satire. Created by an Adult Swim veteran alongside writer Steve Hely, the series follows the saga of a nerdy mycologist who finds a curative fungus and quickly finds himself hunted by everyone from ruthless pharmaceutical executives to federal authorities.
Far from being a parody, the show unfolds with the grave intensity of a classic paranoia film. Enhanced by trippy animation and an unnerving score, the plot explores deeper questions about the substance's full effects. It's a smart, visually striking, and completely compelling ten-episode season.
6. Fallout Season 2
This hit series based on the iconic video game franchise came back with a new season of episodes that deepened its sprawling lore and broadened its post-apocalyptic world. While it travels in the direction of the fan-favorite location of New Vegas, the story is not a direct retelling of that game; rather, it continues to examine themes of authority and freedom.
The show expertly balances multiple storylines and points of view, from the protagonist's mission for justice to a knight's reckoning with the dogma of the Brotherhood of Steel. The result is a deeply layered and wholly engaging chapter to the expanding Fallout mythology.
5. Invincible Season 3
The bloody and emotionally charged adult animation series keeps its powerful streak in its third outing. The hero faces tremendous challenges on every side: preparing for a coming Viltrumite threat, mentoring his powered sibling, and battling with the shadowy Global Defense Agency. The story also includes some of the most brutally brutal action scenes the show has yet produced.
Mark's bodily and psychological limits are repeatedly pushed. He must grapple with foes more powerful than himself, the consequences of his battles, and the moral burden of his decisions. Excellent storylines for key cast members like Cecil Stedman and Rex Splode round out a fantastic season.
4. Peacemaker Season 2
James Gunn's irreverent superhero show came back with elevated significance within the revamped DC universe, and season 2 delivers on that count. While it successfully lays groundwork for future DCU projects, it primarily presents a resonant and self-contained {
