This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
