Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
As the debut season of the hit program wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Viewer Reception
One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”
“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Big Question: Has the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Of course, one could always use the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
